Friends for Youth (FFY) was formed in 1998 after founders of Colorado Volunteers in Juvenile & Criminal Justice (CVJCV) had worked for eight years mentoring adults who were incarcerated under its Friends in Transition program.

Encouraged by the far lower recidivism rate among adults mentored under Friends in Transition compared to the general prison population (20% compared to 80%), our founders believed that earlier intervention for at-risk youth could divert them from involvement in the juvenile and adult justice system.
